Melissa-Kate is a Wirral-born fashion designer focusing on bringing digital and futurism to couture. She focuses on the dark ‘Black Mirror’ type realistic horrors of the modern world and expresses that through her knowledge and experience of pattern cutting. Her work takes you through an experience of reinventing the traditional and constantly questioning, ‘what really is fashion?’
Her fascination with tv glitching comes from her viewing the world with visual snow and her experience of migraine auras. It ties into her ethical views of the world, exploring her anti-capitalist beliefs and the reality of over overconsumption and how both will continue to get worse due to the scary ever changing future of technology. The Melissa-Kate branding is how she views the world both physically and metaphorically.
Melissa-Kate studied fashion at Rare School of Fashion before completing a BA in Fashion at Northumbria University. She is currently at Jimmy Choo Academy studying a masters in Fashion Entrepreneurship in Brand Design and Innovation. She interned as a Junior designer in 2019 at NAANAA clothing, where she designed best sellers for PrettyLittleThing, ASOS, Boohoo, Missguided and New Look. Amongst other things Melissa-Kate has also achieved 3rd in Young Fashion Designer UK in 2016, was selected to present her designs at Clothes show live in 2017 and Won the Graduate Fashion Week X TikTok competition.
Current plans are for Melissa-Kate Studio to Launch Summer 2022.
